Introduction
I didn't plan any of this.
Dream-Catchers just happened as I listened to the soft
wind of spirit blowing in my heart. I didn't even know what that meant for a
long time. I had little awareness of all this at first and then as it kept
developing, I began to see the warp and woof as the dream-catchers wove this
story, surprised that I was being carried along by events that I had not
consciously intended, and actions that were outside my framework of reality.
I was "just" a farm boy growing up in southern Minnesota in the 40's and
50's. I was "just" a husband, a father, and science teacher for most of my
life. In the late 80's at about age 45, everything seemed to have been
kicked into overdrive and the pace accelerated dizzily "out of my control."
Fortunately, I had learned to let go of the frame of my world-picture that I
had held onto with "white knuckles" most of my adult life. I hadn't written
any poetry since I was in fifth grade. Mrs. Butts was very lenient with my
inattention to arithmetic assignments that came back scribbled with poetry,
drawings, songs and stories. After 35 years of silence it began to flow
effortlessly and beyond my comprehension of what it all meant. The dream-catchers became my teacher and they wrote this story, my story.
Planting the Seed

Under a golden summer sunny afternoon cloud-wisped,
blue sky
we ran up the road from the fields...
my cousins,
my brother,
and I.
We raced raucously into the farmyard
headlong, boysterously kicking the dust into a storm
around us.
As we passed the pasture gate I froze in amazement!
I had been here before!
We had been here before!
Doing exactly what we had done before!
Does space and time repeat itself?
Are there holes in space and time
leaking past or future into the present?
Are there other me-s ahead
standing frozen in amazement
remembering seeing us do what they just did?
Or was this just an accident,
an illusion,
a half-remembered dream?
Perhaps dreams are places where I meet my past and future?
Perhaps there's more to life than....
They were staring at me.
So I grinned and laughed, "Sorry, guys. I just thought I saw us doing
this before.
Just my imagination I guess, huh?"
We all laughed and took off on a dead run for the house and lunch.
